Renewable and Sustainable We believe it is important for production of our products to be environmentally and socially responsible manner. We recommend Jute and Indian Grown cotton. Much of the jute and Indian cotton fiber used to make the fabric for Earthbags is grown as a sustainable cash crops by small farmers who principally use age old manual farming techniques and organic based nutrients, with the minimal amount of irrigation. The jute plant is an annual plant that thrives best in moist soil in a hot, humid climate. Jute and cotton are grown as a seasonal crop in India, relying on the monsoon rains. The natural jute fiber is extracted by hand from within the stalk of the jute plant, while cotton is hand picked off the plant. Jute Paper products are made of the waste from the jute making process. It is handmade using techniques that are centuries old and does NOT contain any wood pulp or recycled paper. |
